Northern Nighthawks soar past unbeaten Asheboro Blue Comets, 51-8

Daniel Evans threw for 345 yards and four touchdowns to power Northern Guilford Nighthawks to a dominant 51-8 league victory over previously unbeaten Asheboro on Friday night, Oct. 2.  

The Nighthawks (2-4) took the reins of the game early with a 28-8 halftime lead behind a solid air attack. Evans completed 18 of 20 passes with zero interceptions, connecting frequently with William Preston, who hauled in four catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Christian Leach anchored the ground game for The Nighthawks by carrying 11 times to tally 64 yards and a score.  

After the half, Northern Guilford stretched its lead by outscoring the Asheboro Blue Comets 23-0. Asheboro senior quarterback Dallas Brinton completed 8 of 16 passes for 96 yards, one touchdown, and an interception. Connor Brinton, a junior, paced the Blue Comets’ offense on the ground with 71 yards on eight carries.

This week, Northern Guilford travels to McLeansville on Friday, Oct. 9, to take on the Rams of Northeast Guilford (5-1). Asheboro (5-1) will play a home game against the Falcons of Southeast Guilford (1-5). Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.
