Upcoming 2026 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebrations

On Monday, January 19, 2026, honor the legacy of Dr. King’s life through the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. The King Center in Atlanta, Ga. is inviting everyone to get involved in three ways:

  • Host a service project in the community and register it on its website.
  • Donate items through The King Center’s Amazon Wish List.
  • Spread the word so others can join this work.

Friday, January 16  

The 31st Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Shabbat Service

The Martin Luther King Jr. Shabbat service, celebrating the life and legacy of the slain civil rights leader, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will be held at Temple Emanuel. The service begins at 7:30 p.m. The Special guest speaker will be Reverend Dr. Corey D.B. Walker, Dean of Wake Forest School of Divinity. Temple Emanuel is located at 1129 Jefferson Road, Greensboro, N.C. 27410. The Senior Rabbi of Temple Emanuel is Rabbi Andy Koren.


Sunday, January 18 

The 23rd Annual High Point

MLK Jr. Parade hosted by Carl Chavis YMCA 

The parade will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. The parade route will begin at W. High and S. Main Street. Lineup will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Green and S. Main Street. Parade will start at 2:30 p.m. The route will end at Qubein Ave. and N. Main Street.

If anyone is interested in being a parade entrant, Carl Chavis cordially invites them to fill out an application and secure their place in line. Fees are non-refundable. The parade will be held rain/snow or shine. Monday, January 19

Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast

The 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Event hosted by the Human Rights Commission will begin at 7 a.m. at the Sheraton Greensboro/Koury Convention Center. Keynote speaker is Dr. Karrie Dixon, chancellor of North Carolina Central University. All tickets to the 2026 breakfast have been sold. This annual event honors Dr. King’s contributions to human rights.

MLK Day Worship Service

Worship service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on January 19th at Hayworth Chapel. This service brings together the world’s most influential preachers to commemorate and celebrate Dr. King’s memory and legacy. It is a unique worship experience that testifies to what a values-based, liberal arts education does: inspiring intellectual growth in service of a transformed world shaped by justice and compassion. The 36th Annual Greensboro NAACP

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade

The annual parade in Greensboro is sponsored by the Greensboro Branch of the NAACP. Parade takes place on Monday, Jan. 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This year, Honorary Grand Marshals are Bishop Bryan J. Pierce Sr. and First Lady Debra A. Pierce with Mount Zion Baptist Church of Greensboro. Grand Marshals are Denise Roth, Mayor Pro Tem of Greensboro and Frankie Jones Jr., Guilford County Commissioner representing District 7.

To register to participate in the parade, call Gwendolyn Alston at (336) 327-9148. Parade participation is free for all nonprofits and church groups. The cost is $75 for businesses and political candidates. Line-up will begin at 10 a.m. at the Benbow Professional Building, 2031 Martin Luther King Jr Dr., Greensboro, N.C. 27406.

Collaborative Events Celebrating the Life of MLK Jr.

For the past 13 years, the annual celebration of Dr. Martin L. King Jr. has been a collaborative effort among North Carolina A&T State University, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Guilford Technical Community College, Greensboro College and Guilford College. The collaboration will be held on Thursday, January 22 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the UNCG Auditorium, College of Visual and Performing Arts. This special event honors the life and legacy of Dr. King and provides an opportunity for community dialogue, reflection and inspiration. 

The evening will be filled with engaging dialogue, powerful speakers and opportunities to celebrate Dr. King’s vision of justice, equality and service. The theme this year is “Mission Possible ll: Building Community, Uniting a Nation the Non-Violent Way” and will feature the N.C. A&T Gospel Choir.
