Rams Fly Past Nighthawks, 35-14

Under the Thursday night lights in Guilford County, the powerhouse Reidsville Rams overcame their own miscues to deliver a commanding 35-14 season-opening victory over the host Northern Guilford Nighthawks.

Behind an electric aerial attack led by junior quarterback Tyson Broadway, the visiting Rams set the tone early and never looked back. Broadway picked apart the Nighthawks’ secondary, completing 21 of 28 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns. His favorite target of the evening, wide receiver Damarien Whitted, proved unguardable in key moments, hauling in seven receptions for 93 yards and a score. On the ground, two-way standout Derek Lyons provided balance, chewing up 64 yards on just seven carries to keep the chains moving.

Reidsville dominated the tempo, doubling Northern Guilford in first downs by a 22-11 margin. However, the Rams’ season opener was far from flawless. Reidsville repeatedly stalled their own momentum with 17 penalties totaling 145 yards, alongside a pair of interceptions thrown by Broadway.

Yet, Northern Guilford struggled to capitalize on the Rams’ discipline issues. Limited to just 77 penalty yards of their own and battling stiff resistance from the Reidsville defensive front, the Nighthawks couldn’t sustain enough drives to threaten the lead in the second half.

With the victory, Reidsville (1-0) starts its campaign on a high note. The Rams now prepare to head across state lines on Friday, August 28, to take on the George Washington Eagles (0-0) in Danville, Virginia.

Meanwhile, Northern Guilford (0-1) faces an immediate uphill test to even its record. The Nighthawks hit the road on August 28 for a clash against the East Forsyth Eagles (1-0), who enter the matchup fresh off a 13-0 shutout win over Glenn.
