Northern 47
Reidsville 38
The Northern Nighthawks opened their football season by traveling to Reidsville to face the Reidsville Rams on Friday night for a battle on the gridiron. It was a game of retribution for the Hawks, ranked No. 2 in the Triad, as they defeated the Rams, ranked No. 3 in the Triad, 47-38 on the Rams’ turf. These two teams last played each other in September 2016 when the Rams were the victors, 45-16.
Although the Rams were defeated by an agile Nighthawks team, they saw their sophomore quarterback, Braxton Johnson, show his talents. Johnson threw for 150 yards and three touchdowns.
Amare Akers scored two touchdowns for the Nighthawks. And, Northern’s QB Jaxson Kemp went 8-19 for 94 yards passing and nine rushes for 49 yards with two TDs.
Both teams will see action this Friday, August 29, as Reidsville will host George Washington and Northern Guilford will play East Forsyth. Both games will kick off at 7 p.m.
