March 3 Primary Elections Results

Early voters cast 15,481 ballots before March 3, bringing Guilford County voting totals to 77,384 ballots cast out of 386,736 registered voters.

Guilford County Board of Commissioners At-Large race saw three Democrats in the primaries. Greg Drumwright won 39.61 percent of the vote; followed by Amy Kemp at 35.57 percent and Toby Andrea Hedgepeth at 24.81 percent. Drumwright will face Republican Tony Jacobell in the General Election.

In The Guilford County Board of Commissioners District 7 Democrat race, Lisa McMillian took 50.19 percent of the vote, beating out opponent Walter T. Johnson at 49.81 percent of the vote. The closeness of the result raises the possibility of a recount. No Republican candidate has filed in this race.

Four democrats were in the Guilford County Board of Education District 4 race, with Ebony Burnett pulling out the win with 50.57 percent of the vote. Followed by Irish Spencer, 28.17 percent, Michelle Linster at 12 percent and Sherry Walker with nine percent. Burnett will face Republican Tracy Gaskins in the General Election.

Khem Irby retained the Democrat seat for Guilford County Board of Education District 6 with 65.17 percent of the vote against opponent Chris Gillespie, with 34.83 percent of the vote. Irby will face Republican Maritza Gomez in the General Election.

Guilford County Clerk of Superior Court in the Democrat primary saw David Churchill take 60 percent of the vote over Cinnamon Hunter with 39.75 percent of the vote. No Republican has filed for the seat.

Guilford County Sheriff Republican primary went to Phil Byrd with 68.56 percent of the vote, who beat out William (Billy) Queen’s 31.44 percent of the vote. Byrd will face incumbent Democratic Sheriff Danny Rogers in the General Election.

N.C. Court of Appeals Judge Seat 1 saw a Republican primary with Michael Byrne winning with 58.51 percent of the vote over Matt Smith’s 41.49 percent. Byrne will face Democratic incumbent Judge John Arrowood in the General Election.

The N.C. Court of Appeals Judge Seat 2 had a Democratic primary, with Judge Christine Marie Walczyk defeating James Weldon Whalen in the primary by a margin of 62.35 percent of the vote to Whalen’s 37.65 percent. Walczyk will face Republican Judge Craig Collins in the General Election.

N.C. House of Representatives District 59 Democrat primary saw Elma Hairston beat C. Bradley Hunt with 59.26 over Hunt’s 40.74 percent of the vote. Hairston will face incumbent Republican Rep. Alan Branson in the General Election.

N.C. House of Representatives District 60 saw four Democrats on the primary ballot, with incumbent Rep. Amanda Cook taking the win with 42.46 percent of the vote. Followed by Angie Williams-McMichael with 29.60 percent, Joe Alston with 16.33 percent, and Bruce Davis with 11.61 percent of the vote. Cook will face Republican Joseph Perrotta in the General Election.

All election results are unofficial until the final count on Friday, March 13. General Election is November 3, 2026.
