For litigants representing themselves in court, Guilford County opened a Legal Support Center in Greensboro, dedicating the courthouse facility to retired Chief District Court Judge Teresa Vincent, a driving force in its creation.
During the August 13 dedication ceremony, Judge Vincent received numerous commendations for her inspiration and persistence in establishing the center that empowers individuals representing themselves in legal proceedings by providing clear, accessible, and court-approved information at no cost.
Vincent worked with Guilford Commissioner Frankie Jones Jr. in opening the first center in July 2025 at the High Point Courthouse. The center exists in partnership with Guilford County District Courts and Court Support for Families, Guilford County.
“The center simply provides access to justice,” said Vincent, explaining, “The North Carolina Constitution requires that justice be administered without favor, denial or delay. This is an opportunity to partner with the county, community partners and the courts to be a solution to a problem faced by a large percentage of litigants with civil matters pending in Guilford County.”
In acknowledging her role in establishing the Legal Support Center in Greensboro, Vincent said, “By equipping litigants with the knowledge to navigate the court system effectively, we improve judicial efficiency, reduce procedural delays, and ensure access to justice is not limited by an inability to afford legal representation.”
Additionally, the existence of the center “will lessen anxiety for individuals by allowing them to gain knowledge about the judicial system and their specific legal issues,” she said.
According to Guilford Co. Commissioner Frankie Jones Jr., the Legal Support Center at the High Point Courthouse has assisted more than 272 Guilford County residents since it opened last August.
“As judges, we have witnessed firsthand how often cases are delayed or dismissed due to procedural errors. Therefore, the need for this type of center is evident and will allow greater access to justice,” Vincent said.
The new Legal Support Center is located at the Guilford County Courthouse in Greensboro. The Greensboro Center is open Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The High Point Center is located at 505 E. Green Dr., Room 140 and is open Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
