It’s Time to Early Vote!

Posted

Early voting for the November 5 General Election will be held from October 17 to November 2.

Where to vote: A detailed schedule including early voting sites, addresses, and daily schedules can be found on 5B in the Carolina Peacemaker and on the Guilford County Elections website. During the early voting period, voters may cast a ballot at any early voting site in their county, and eligible individuals may register and vote at the same time.

Same-Day Registration ONLY applies during Early Voting. Individuals who are not registered to vote in a county by the deadline may register at early voting sites during the early voting period. After registering, the newly registered voter can immediately vote at the same site. This process is called “same-day registration.”

Check your registration status: Voters can use the Voter Search Tool on the Guilford County Board of Elections website to check their registration status, view individual sample ballot information (search and select name, scroll down to Your Sample Ballot section) or view sample composite ballot information.

Photo ID: A photo ID is required to vote this year. Voters must show an acceptable photo ID when they check in at their voting site during early voting or on Election Day. Election workers check to see if the picture on the ID reasonably resembles the voter and if the name on the ID is the same as or very similar to the voter’s name in their registration record. The address on the photo ID does not have to match the voter registration records. If you do not have a valid photo ID card, you may obtain one from your county board of elections prior to the election. Having a valid photo ID card on Election Day will eliminate the need to vote by mail or on a provisional ballot.

If you do not have a valid photo ID card on Election Day, you may still vote and have your vote counted by signing an affidavit of reasonable impediment (or “Photo ID Exception Form”) as to why you have not presented a valid photo ID. The Exception Form can also be used if you have a religious objection to being photographed or are a victim of a recently declared natural disaster. As an alternative, if you don’t have your ID when you vote, you can still vote and then bring your valid photo ID to your county board of elections by 5 p.m. on the ninth day after Election Day.
