The Dudley Panthers hosted the Page Pirates in a crosstown matchup. The game lived up to its billing as Dudley edged out Page with a final score of 21-17, thanks to a balanced attack and timely defensive stops.
The Panthers’ offense was powered by their rushing attack, which accounted for a whopping 264 yards. Standout performances came from running back Michael Boone Jr., a junior, who rushed for 116 yards, and senior quarterback Brayden Jeffries, who added 47 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground. The balanced ground game proved to be the key to controlling the clock and wearing down the Page defense.
Page’s offense, while not as dominant on the ground, found success through the air. Sophomore quarterback Zamari Williamson threw for 141 yards and a touchdown, connecting with junior receiver Charles Disney on a 30-yard scoring pass. The Pirates’ offense, however, was held in check by a stout Dudley defense that recorded 3.5 sacks and forced two interceptions.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading blows. Dudley’s defense, led by Robert McCollum with 11 total tackles and a sack, consistently pressured the Page backfield. On the other side of the ball, the Panthers capitalized on their opportunities, with touchdowns from Jeffries, McCollum, and a receiving touchdown from Vermont Carmack.
In the end, it was a tale of two different offensive philosophies, and on this night, Dudley’s ground game prevailed. The win improves the Panthers’ record and gives them bragging rights in one of Greensboro’s most anticipated rivalries.
Up next, Dudley will face the Golden Eagles of Ben L. Smith, while Page will take on its familiar foe, Ragsdale. Both games kick off Friday, October 3, at 7 p.m.
