Dudley beats Southeast, earns Metro 4-A No.1 seed

The Dudley Panthers spoiled Southeast Guilford’s Senior Night ceremony with a 49-6 romp over the Falcons. With the victory, Dudley clinched the Metro 4-A Championship and the number one seed in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) 4-A state football playoff.

Dudley will host No. 16 McDowell Friday night at Tarpley Stadium.

Southeast (8-3, 3-2) took the opening kickoff on Friday night, driving 80 yards to score first. Josiah Bonner made a one-handed catch on an 11-yard fourth-down pass from Tavaris Best with 6:38 to play in the first quarter. Sergio Hernandez’s extra-point kick was wide right.

The Panthers’ first three touchdowns were called back on infractions. At the break, Dudley led 13-6. The Panthers added 36 unanswered points in the second half led by Connell Young’s 21 carries for 308 yards and three touchdowns. Junior quarterback Hendon Hooker had 14 attempts for 74 yards and two touchdowns helping the Panthers amass 530 yards rushing. The (8-3) Falcons earned a No.10 seed and will travel to No.7 North Davidson on Friday for the Class 4-A West playoffs.
