The semifinals of the 41st HAECO Invitational basketball tournament played at the Greensboro Special Events Center concluded on Tuesday, December 27.
In women’s play, Northwest Guilford jumped to a 16-2 lead and never looked back defeating Page 52-19. Cayla King led the Vikings with 16 points, teammate Elizabeth Kitley added 14 points and 18 rebounds.
The Northern Guilford Nighthawks rolled by the Dudley Panthers 78-37. The Nighthawks placed four players in double figures led by Kassis Robakiewicz and Elissa Cunane with 14 points apiece while teammates Mercedes Wampler and Stephanie Chandler contributed 12 points each.
In men’s play, five time defending HAECO champions, the Greensboro Day School Bengals, outscored the Dudley Panthers 16-4 during second round play in rout to a 66-32 victory.
The Bengals led by 34 points in the fourth quarter and were led by J.P. Moorman’s 19 points and nine rebounds. Teammates John Newman and Jordan Perkins chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively. Hendon Hooker paced the Panthers with 15 points and four rebounds. In the final nightcap game Northwest Guilford stopped Northern Guilford 65-51 led by Tre Turner’s 17 points while teammates Jalen Spicer and Reggie Davis added 13 and 11 points respectively. Trey Johnson’s 16 points led the Nighthawks.
