Guilford County Schools welcomed back all of its 72,000 students and a new superintendent on Monday, August 29.
New Superintendent Sharon Contreras visited a variety of schools across the district, wearing a dress designed by the students at Brooks Global Studies.
GCS First Day Fun Facts:
- 100 percent of classes had a full-time teacher staffed for the first day of school.
- GCS served approximately 44,000 lunches and 24,000 breakfasts on the first day of school.
- Nearly 600 buses traveled approximately 52,000 miles.
- 283 new teachers were trained this summer through GCS Induction and Success.
- Nearly 3,700 K-5 students attended the ACES program at 57 elementary schools.
