The undefeated Panthers of Dudley High School celebrated homecoming with a 42-0 shellacking over the visiting Southern Alamance Patriots Friday night at Tarpley Stadium. The Panthers improved to 8-0, 2-0 in the Metro 4-A Conference.
In front of a standing-room-only crowd, Dudley took the opening kickoff and marched 82 yards, capped off by quarterback Hendon Hooker’s 15 yard touchdown run. The PAT was good and Dudley led 7-0 with 7:59 remaining.On their next possession, Dudley used just three plays to get the lead to 14-0 thanks to a Thomas Young score.
Early in the second quarter Jon Zellious caught a touchdown reception from Hooker lifting the score to 21-0 and the rout was on. The Panthers led 34-0 at the half.
Hooker led the offense with 14-of-18 passing for 266 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for two scores on seven attempts for 84 yards. Four running backs and quarterback Hooker combined to total 368 rushing yards: Thomas Young (5 carries-68yds), Ezra Perkins (8 carries-70yds), Zereik Rush (7 carries-74yds), and Tony Burch (3 carries-66yds).
The Panthers had 266 passing yards led by Zellious’ five receptions for 127 yards and two touchdowns. The defense was led by Patrick Conner and Nigel Peele, who combined for 20 tackles.
