Under an intense sweltering afternoon sun, Greensboro’s annual Downtown Fun Fourth along a stretch of Elm Street went forth with all the patriotic panache associated with crowds celebrating Independence Day.
Between Market Street on the East and Lewis Street on the West, thousands of July 4 gawkers, foodies, shoppers, families and individuals moved along the city’s main thoroughfare.
With temperatures nearing 98-degrees Fahrenheit, the most popular vendors provided cool drinks and refreshments. One popular cooling station, WFMY News 2 provided complimentary wet towels, which people placed on their necks and heads.
Many water stations and reminders to hydrate informed visitors to avoid heat-related health issues. Uniform police and medical personnel were highly visible in case of heat related incidents.
Entertainment stages capped the ends of Elm Street, where visitors danced, sang and moved to the sounds of rhythm and blues, salsa and other upbeat music.
