It was an evening of glitz and glamour as members of the Greensboro community dressed in their finest attire as area residents and business owners were honored for their creative work in their chosen fields and occupations. The first ever G.O.A.T. Awards – Greatest of All Time – presented 30 awards to local area residents.

The event was led by Tonya Cuthbertson McCrimmon, founder of Mothers Standing Against Gun Violence (MSAGCV) and Dr. Irish Gaymon-Spencer, founder of Families Against Senseless Killings (FASK). In addition to presenting awards, the event organizers have called for the community-at-large to actively observe a cease fire; to stop the pervasive use of firearms and to stop killing people across the community.

The G.O.A.T Awards ceremony was held last Saturday, January 14 at the Carolina Theatre in Greensboro. Carolina Peacemaker was one of several signature sponsors of the event. The ceremony recognized approximately 30 community members who aren’t normally given recognition for their outstanding work. Community members were able to nominate people for categories such as favorite barber, favorite hairstylist, favorite nail tech, favorite small business and more.

Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan, City Council persons Marikay Abuzuaiter and Sharon Hightower and the newly appointed Greensboro Police Chief John Thompson presented a proclamation to the awards organizers in support of the ceasefire.
