West teams dominate NCCA All-Star Games

The West Women All-Stars rallied to defeat the East 62-55 in the 48th annual North Carolina Coaches Association (NCCA) East-West All-Star game. The game was played at the Greensboro Coliseum on Monday night. The East led for three quarters before the West rallied outscoring the East 27-12 during the fourth quarter. Kate Hollifield of Shelby led the West with 18 points and was named the game MVP. Teammates Olivia Porter (Northwood) and Julianna Walter (Alexander Central) contributed 12 and 10 points. Aly Wadkovsky a 6-feet-2 forward had a game-high 15 rebounds for the West. The East was led by Laney Beale (Chapel Hill) and Jerni Kiaku (Garner Magnet) with nine points each.

On the men’s side, the West defeated the East 92-90, dominating for most of the 74th NCCA East-West All-Star men’s basketball game played at the Greensboro Coliseum. The West led 52-39 at the half. North Mecklenburg’s guards Jordan Crawford and Davion Cunningham led the West with eight and nine points respectively. The East tied it at 66 all late in the third quarter, led by West Carteret’s 6-feet-8 center, Jaxon Ellingsworth, who was named game MVP with 29 points and 18 rebounds. The West had four players scoring in double figures led by KC Shaw (Mooresville) with 16 points, Mecklenburg’s Crawford and Cunningham 14 apiece, and Kyle Frazier 13, from Weddington.
