Nighthawks upset Rams

The Northern Guilford Nighthawks football team won Friday’s home Mid-State 3-A conference game against the Northeast Guilford Rams by a score of 35-27.
Northern took the opening kickoff and marched 80 yards in 12 plays, capped off by running back Jordan Lane’s one yard touchdown run. The PAT was good and Northern led 7-0.
On their next possession, Northern marched 94 yards in 10 plays, with junior wide receiver JJ Julian catching a 47 yard touchdown reception. Early in the second quarter, Julian scored Northern’s third touchdown, capping a 70 yard drive. The Nighthawks led 20-6. An interception by Northern sophomore linebacker Christian Bass led to the Nighthawks’ fourth touchdown. Northern marched 38 yards on three carries by Jordan Lane, lifting the score to 28-6 at the half.
Northeast Guilford’s junior quarterback completed 21-of-33 passes for 316 yards and one touchdown while rushing for an additional 106 yards on 15 attempts, they weren’t able to overcome a 21 point deficit. The Rams dropped to 4-5 overall, 4-2 in the conference. The Nighthawks’ JJ Julian and Jordan Lane led Northern with two touchdowns apiece. The Nighthawks improved to 2-7, 2-4 Mid-State 3A.
