HKonJ 2019

Thousands of people descended on downtown Raleigh on February 9 for the 13th annual Historic Thousands on Jones Street (HKonJ) People’s Assembly march, led by the North Carolina NAACP.

The people’s assembly is comprised of more than 125 NC NAACP branches, youth councils, and college chapters from across the state and members of over 200 other social justice organizations. The groups stood at the capital on Saturday to talk about issues on their 14 point agenda which addresses homelessness, poverty, criminal justice reform, healthcare, education, voting rights, government policies and more.

Speakers included Rev. Dr. T. Anthony Spearman, current N.C. NAACP president; Joyce Johnson with Beloved Community Center of Greensboro; and Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II, former N.C. NAACP president.
