Dudley’s defense halts Hillside, 34-13

The Panthers of Dudley High School earned a hard fought 34-13 non-conference win over Durham Hillside Friday night at Tarpley Stadium.
The Panthers improved to 4-0 while the Hornets dropped to 1-2. After a scoreless first quarter, touchdown runs by Hendon Hooker and Connell Young gave Dudley a 14-0 lead. But Hillside responded with a drive capped off by Abdul Adams’ 39 yard scoring run. Both teams added scores before the half with Dudley up 20-13.
Senior Jayden Maynor returned the second half opening kickoff 88 yards and Dudley never looked back. Young finished with 18 carries for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Junior quarterback Hooker completed six-of-10 passes for 109 yards and one score. He rushed for an additional 103 yards and a touchdown on nine attempts. Dudley was led on defense by linebackers Nigel Peele and Osinor Kakhu with 11 and nine tackles respectively
