It’s a long name to call yourself but it sums up how the North Carolina A&T swim team feels about the 2015-16 season. The Aggie swimmers are calling themselves “The last of a dying breed” as the program will be discontinued after this season.

The Aggies released their 2015-16 schedule Tuesday with two home meets, a return to the fabulous North Carolina Invitational at the beautiful Greensboro Aquatic Center and meets against tough Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association opponents.

Even though they are entering their final year as a varsity sport on campus, the Aggies are optimistic and positive about their situation.
“The team and I are very excited about this season,” said head coach Shawn Hendrix. “We look forward to breaking all school records and leaving a legacy of history behind.”

The Aggies open their season October 2-3 at the North Carolina Invitational at the GAC. The meet features all the colleges in North Carolina that sponsor varsity swimming. N.C. A&T’s schedule gets extremely busy in the days ahead as they participate in three swim meets in four days starting Oct. 14 with their home opener against Virginia Military Institute at 6 p.m., at Corbett Sports Center.

They will then travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for something the team almost never does – swim at the University of North Florida. UNF usually travels to Greensboro or Buies Creek to face N.C. A&T and Campbell in a tri-meet. This time the Aggies go there to face the Osprey on Oct. 16 before returning the next day to face UNF and Campbell in a tri-meet.

November features a tri-meet at Campbell against the Fighting Camels, Vanderbilt and the Aggies on Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. Six days later the Aggies travel to the nation’s capital to face their longtime heated rival Howard at 6 p.m. (Nov. 20). After winter break, the Aggies will hit the pool right away with a home meet against Howard on Jan. 23.

Rounding out the final regular season of swimming will be a face off against UNC Asheville on Jan. 30 at 12pm. The annual CCSA championships will be held February 18-21 in Athens, Ga.

“We’re looking forward to showing people how much effort we’re going to give in this, our last season,” said senior sprinter Miranda Jacobs.
