By Joe Daniels, Sports Director / July 21, 2016

Boys: East routs West 119-98

The East was able to turn a three-point halftime advantage into a third quarter, 73-55 lead at North Carolina Coaches Association (NCCA) All-Star Game.

Robert Colon scored 11 points in the decisive run for the East. He hit three three-pointers during the flurry. Colon, a Winston-Salem State signee, scored all but five of his 26 points in the final two quarters. The 6-foot-1 guard earned MVP honors.

Northwest Guilford alumnus Jaylen Gore led the Guilford County contingent with 12 points, Raymon Pratt (of Smith High School) had 11 points and three assists, Chris Denning (Southern Guilford High School) had nine points and Kaymon Mitchell (Southwest Guilford High School) added six.

“This was all fun, but when I get to A&T it’s all about business,” said Raymon Pratt, a Smith High School alumnus and N.C. A&T signee.

Girls: West dominates 105-85

Ra’Shika White, a 6-foot-3 post player from Charlotte’s Berry High School, scored 12 points in the third quarter sparking a 19-7 run to help the West All-Stars pull away from the East to lead 77-60. The West’s 105 points was a North Carolina Coaches Association (NCCA) East-West girls’ record.

White, who is headed to Elon University, finished with 27 points and 10 rebounds to earn MVP honors.

Local participants from Northwest Guilford High School, Morgan Pointer and Hayley Barber, played for the West All-Stars. Pointer had 11 points and six rebounds, and Barber added four points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals. They will be frequent opponents over the next four years in the Big South Conference, with Pointer playing for Gardner-Webb and Barber headed to Campbell University.
