The Golden Eagles of Smith High School won a non-conference 26-24 win over Western Guilford Friday night (Sept. 2) at Doug Henderson Stadium. Early in the second quarter, tailback Jamerick Wallace scored the first of his three touchdowns for the Eagles. He finished with eight carries for 116 yards.

On the ensuing kickoff, Western’s Edrick Purnell returned the kickoff 86 yards. The PAT failed and Smith held the lead at 7-6.

The Eagle’s Barry Ford ran a 67-yard double reverse leading to another Wallace score.

Hornets’ quarterback Mike Kennedy scored late in the second quarter cutting the lead to 13-14 at the half. Kennedy finished with 17 of 27 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns. The Hornets were unable to stop the Eagles’ ground attack with running back Rohan Goldston chipping in 94 yards on 11attempts.
