Art students from Guilford and Forsyth counties won recognition for their work from U.S. Rep. Kathy Manning’s North Carolina’s Sixth Congressional District Art Competition.

At a reception in Greensboro’s Green Hill Center for North Carolina Art, First Place honors went to Abigail McCarthy, R.J. Reynolds High School, Winston-Salem, for “The Light at the End of the Tunnel, in white charcoal; and from Weaver Academy, Greensboro, Second Place, Isaiah Paguaga for “Beg,” in acrylic paint; and Third Place, Hailey Fisher for “Duke,” in acrylic paint.

“The abundance of artistic talent in North Carolina’s Sixth District was on full display with this year’s Congressional Art Competition,” said Congresswoman Manning. “Students from every corner of the Triad submitted more than 90 pieces of phenomenal artwork.” The winner’s artwork will be exhibited in the U.S. Capitol and in Manning’s Washington office.

The winners and their families joined judges and art teachers, as well as Guilford County Schools Superintendent Sharon Contreras, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Tricia McManus, and Greensboro City Councilmembers Nancy Hoffmann and Justin Outling and Tammi Thurm.

During past two weeks, Green Hill exhibited the artwork of the winners’ artwork and all contestants.
