The Dudley High Panthers took a giant step toward winning their second consecutive Metro 4-A Conference football championship with a 35-7 win over Page High Friday night at a Tarpley Stadium filled to capacity.

With the win, Dudley improved to 9-1 overall, and 4-0 in Metro 4A while Page fell to 8-2, 3-1. Dudley will travel to Southeast Guilford on Friday on a mission to clinch the Metro 4-A championship.

The Panthers capitalized on a short field marching 48 yards with quarterback Hendon Hooker scoring on a four yard run. The PAT was good giving Dudley a 7-0 lead. The Pirates answered on their next possession with wide receiver Diondre Overton catching a 20-yard touchdown from quarterback Will Jones.

Late in the second quarter, Dudley marched 80 yards in four plays, capped off by tailback Connell Young’s four-yard run. The PAT was blocked, making the score Dudley 13-7 at the break.

The Panthers’ defense dominated the second half while the offense scored three touchdowns led by Young’s 21 carries for 157 yards and three more touchdowns. Hooker had 161 yards passing on 10-of-17 for one score.
